How to Stay Motivated to Work Out
Share
Most people don't struggle with knowing they should exercise.
They struggle with wanting to exercise.
Every January, millions of people buy gym memberships, download fitness apps, and promise themselves that this year will be different.
Then reality shows up.
The alarm clock rings at 5:30 in the morning.
The weather is terrible.
The couch suddenly becomes the most comfortable piece of furniture ever created.
And somehow that workout gets pushed to tomorrow.
So how do you stay motivated to work out?
Fitness experts usually recommend setting realistic goals, creating a routine, finding an exercise you enjoy, and tracking your progress. Those are all excellent ideas.
Unfortunately, Tom from Stick Tees NYC has developed a very different approach.
Tom believes the secret to staying motivated is eliminating anything that threatens your motivation.
For example:
If running makes you tired, don't run.
If lifting weights makes your arms sore, don't lift weights.
If the gym is too far away, stay home.
If the gym is close by, stay home anyway.
According to Tom, this system has worked perfectly for years.
His favorite post-workout meal?
Steak and a four-digit dessert.
His favorite exercise?
Walking to the refrigerator.
His favorite fitness goal?
Making sure the remote control stays within reach.
Of course, Tom's advice should not be considered medical guidance.
Real fitness success comes from consistency, not perfection.
You don't need to become a professional athlete.
You don't need to spend hours in the gym.
You just need to keep showing up, even on the days when motivation disappears.
Because motivation comes and goes.
Habits are what keep people moving.
Still, if you've ever skipped a workout, promised yourself you'd start next Monday, or convinced yourself that carrying groceries counts as strength training, you're probably going to appreciate Tom's perspective.
Sometimes laughter is just as important as motivation.
